Worried Phillies Get Good News On Injured Ranger Suarez

Phillies Manager Rob Thomson has given a positive update on Ranger Suarez's throwing hand.

X-rays were negative on the left hand of Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ranger Suárez, who left Saturday's game early after getting hit by a 106.1 mph comebacker.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Sunday that Suárez is "a lot better" and that he could be available to pitch in relief as early as Monday's series opener against the Miami Marlins.

Suárez left Saturday's game in the second inning after being hit by a comebacker off the bat of Cardinals' Nolan Gorman. He was replaced by left-hander Bailey Falter, who allowed one run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings.

The Phillies have been without several key pitchers this season, including Zack Wheeler (elbow), Corey Knebel (elbow), and David Robertson (elbow). However, Suárez's injury does not appear to be serious, which is a relief for the Phillies.

Suárez is 5-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 12 starts this season. He has struck out 63 batters and walked 20 in 62 1/3 innings. The Phillies are hoping that Suárez can return to the rotation soon and help them make a run at the playoffs.
